Small GodsHow many gods of small things have we lost to the sands of time and the march of progress? How many have been lost because they have no great temples? How many gods of small things of hearth and sewing and lost things were taken from us? We know the name of Hestia but she had no great stories given to her. Mother of the hearth only known to us because she was said to have given her seatto carefree Dionysus. How many gods of small things have we lost to destruction and defacement? How many were forgotten because they did not command the sky or the sea or death itself? How many gods of small things of summer dew and sweets and little streams known only to their village? Loki was not the god of mischief. We know not why he was prayed to. But one must wonder why someone would ask a backbiter, a spider, the mother and father of monsters to guard your children with an offering of milk teeth cast into the fires of the life giving hearth.
